Carolyn Jean Bohner, 81

Carolyn Jean Bohner, 81 of Waverly and formerly of rural Clarksville, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at her home. 

Carolyn was born on June 15, 1942, the daughter of Harvey and Esther (Stoxen) Schmidt. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville. She attended country school in Dayton Township, rural Clarksville. She graduated from Clarksville High School, where she was a player on the basketball team that made it to the Girls State Basketball Tournament. Carolyn was united in marriage to Melvin Charles Bohner on August 14, 1960, at St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville. Together they raised their five children.  Carolyn and Melvin traveled together all around the world on their trips and enjoyed wintering in Florida. Together for many years, they hosted a trail ride to benefit Juvenile Diabetes. In 1984, she returned to school and attended Hawkeye Tech in Waterloo, receiving a degree in Interior Design. Melvin passed away in 2010 and Carolyn continued to live on the farm where they raised stock cattle, until recently moving to Waverly. 

Carolyn was an avid bird watcher, enjoyed playing cards, putting puzzles together, cooking and dancing. She loved attending Iowa Hawkeye games and always loved having Christmas.  

Carolyn is survived by a son, Mark Bohner of Tripoli; a daughter, Nancy (Kenny) Kappmeyer of Waverly; a daughter, Kim Bohner of Waverly; a son, Michael (Corinne) Bohner of Cedar Rapids; and a son, Matthew Bohner of Clarksville; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, her brothers, Doug (Pat) Schmidt and Dan (Pat) Schmidt, both of Clarksville; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Voss of Clarksville. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Melvin Bohner, a sister, JoAnn Voss and special friend, Jerry Backer. 

There will be a visitation on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also one hour prior to services on Friday at the church. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly with Pastor Kwang Song officiating. Burial will be held in Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation. Online condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com
