Bible reading marathon

The past two Saturday mornings you may have noted around a dozen Butler County residents seated casually in lawn chairs in front of the courthouse with Bibles open.
     The group met in a continued response to Governor Brandstad’s proclamation last year encouraging Iowa residents to read through the Bible at each of Iowa’s 99 courthouses.
     “It’s a beautiful thing to sit and read at the courthouse as we seek God’s blessing on the country, state and nation,” said Janna Voss, the Iowa Bible Reading Marathon’s Butler County Coordinator.
     The 80 hours of scripture were divided into 30-minute segments. Each reader took a few segments and read aloud on the courthouse lawn. Leftover portions will be read by churches, study groups and families throughout the county.
