GREENE – In an emotional ceremony before running commenced, the North Butler boys track & field team paused to honor long-time guidance counselor, track coach and official Kyle Marquard, naming the meet in his honor on Friday, April 21.
Marquard was surrounded by family as he was presented with a plaque to cheers from the home crowd.
He spoke briefly, thanking everyone for the honor and also said he wished he could stay and chat, but told the crowd that he was leaving directly after the ceremony to go to the Mayo Clinic for treatment of cancer he has been battling.
The story appears in the April 27 print edition of the Butler County Tribune-Journal.
