ALLISON – Seeing the same pitcher twice in less than a week – and a very tired one at that – helped North Butler come back and finish third at its own softball tournament on Saturday, June 21.

The Bearcats were seeing Clarksville’s Emily Mennenga, who they faced on Tuesday, after being pressed into service following an injury to the Indians’ No. 2 pitcher Morgan Thompson.

Thompson was drilled in the shoulder by a line drive during the sixth inning of the second tournament game against Lake Mills. All told, Mennenga threw 17 total innings on Saturday after taking over with no outs in the first after Brittney Litterer walked the first two batters to start the final for both teams.

The result was a 12-2, six-inning win for the Bearcats in the third-place game.

More on this story and photos will be in both June 26 print editions of the Butler County Tribune and Clarksville Star.
