At the Allison council meeting Monday evening, the purchase of a new ambulance was approved.
The red 2001 rig, which has electrical problems and isn’t often used, will be traded in, and a 2019 model will be purchased to serve as the crew’s primary ambulance. The 2004 ambulance currently serving as primary rig will move into the secondary position.
Ambulance crew member Pastor Kyle Barton and crew chief Bailey Johnson discussed the need with the council and presented a quote.
“The advantages of this would be a lot of increased safety for the crew and patients,” Barton said. “Primarily for the patients, it would be a smoother ride. With an F Series chassis, rather than an E Series, it would be more of a truck-type ambulance than a van. The truck would ride smoother and have an upgraded suspension kit that provides a much smoother ride. You are all aware of how smooth Highway 3 is. Frequently it’s quite bumpy for the patients. There would also be harnesses for the crew to be able to wear while traveling. At present, there are no seatbelts for us beyond one person.”
