At the Allison council meeting on Monday evening, Mark Steffes of Blacktop Services gave estimates for the cost of completing the 53 blocks of streets that need repaired in Allison, as requested by the council.
Steffes said the city has three options to consider. They could excavate 10-12 inches, fill with a solid base of 33,000 tons of rock with engineering fabric, and then sealcoat a couple inches on top. Or they can mill and pave with either four or six inches of asphalt.
The cost of sealcoating for the whole town is estimated at $480,000. With the four-inch asphalt overlay, there wouldn’t be a need to purchase all the rock, so the total cost would be only about $40,000 to $50,000 more than the seal coat, as long as the base is decent. If the base is not decent and further work needs to be done, other blocks may need to be taken off the project to compensate. The six-inch overlay option is 25 to 30 percent more expensive.
The price estimates don’t include manholes and water valves.
